What it Means to Hold Space for Someone

These last few weeks I dived into an introspective mode. Not that I’m very expansive but, this week I wanted to figure out how can I contribute to this new world that is emerging. Its been 20 years working with humans from different cultures and perspectives. And yes I have a method, a base to do it, but what exactly makes one trust me more than another?


So there I was in my daily routine, walking my dog on an empty park when suddenly I joined the dots: “of course that’s it!”
And all the memories of friends, family, clients, students, partners that came at the same time in my memories saying: “that’s your gift, you do it all the time and you can’t help it!”


And what means at the end to hold space for someone?


(…) It means that we are willing to walk alongside another person in whatever journey they’re on without judging them, making them feel inadequate, trying to fix them, or trying to impact the outcome. When we hold space for other people, we open our hearts, offer unconditional support, and let go of judgment and control(…)

I invite you to read it and to know that (…) It’s virtually impossible to be a strong space holder unless we have others who will hold space for us. Even the strongest leaders, coaches, nurses, etc., need to know that there are some people with whom they can be vulnerable and weak without fear of being judged(…)

And so, the pic above shows one of the angels that old space for me :).
